Kristina L. Mayer, Ed. D., is a specialist in the fields of philanthropy and education. She leads the KLMayer Consulting Group, providing strategic philanthropy services for foundations, nonprofits and individuals. The firm is located in Port Townsend, WA, on the Olympic Peninsula west of Seattle.

Governor Christine Gregoire appointed Dr. Mayer to the Washington State Board of Education in early 2006 and reappointed her in early 2007 to a four-year term. She has sense been reappointed and continues to serve as the Board Lead for the statewide Systems Performance Accountability task force.

Dr. Mayer's professional accomplishments include creating the Jefferson County Community Foundation, spearheading the Washington Initiative for National Board Certification, creating the Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession, and co-creating the Nicaragua 2001 Foundation.

Before launching her consulting career, Dr. Mayer was a program officer for nearly a decade at both the Stuart Foundation and the Washington Mutual Foundation. Prior to that, she spent 20 years working in education as a school reformer, teacher and principal. Dr. Mayer earned a Bachelor of Education degree with honors from Seattle University and a Masters of Arts in Education from Gonzaga University with a concentration in curriculum and administration. She is also a doctoral graduate of the Fielding Graduate Institute of Santa Barbara, Calif., with a degree in Education Leadership and Change.

In addition, she has been an active member of many nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving education and supporting philanthropy. She holds emeritus memberships in Philanthropy Northwest, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the Association of Washington School Principals. Her past board service includes development chair for Philanthropy Northwest and program committee chair for the national affinity group Grantmakers for Education (GFE). Dr. Mayer also served as an advisor to the GFE Knowledge Management Initiative.

Dr. Mayer is a seasoned world traveler. She co-created Professional Adventures to provide stimulating international educational opportunities that combine adventure travel, cultural learning and the application of learning to professional practice. Her concern for the people she has met in developing countries led her to join a Giving Circle to increase economic opportunities in Nicaragua through micro-lending programs. Close to home, she has helped create a Community Endowment Fund in her home county.
